Rocket Aerodynamics

The forces that affects a rocket flight are drag and lift. Drag negatively affects a rocket acceleration, velocity, and ultimate altitude. It must be minimized, lift causes directional changes in a rockets flight. Drag is a component of aerodynamic force acting directly against a rocket's velocity. Drag acts as a brake on the rocket.

Lift is a component of aerodynamic force acting perpendicular to a rockets velocity. The lift causes a rocket to pitch around its center of gravity. AOA stands for standard of attack. The angle of attack is the angle between a rockets velocity vector and its centerline. Stability is given to how a rocket behaves when flying.
