Astronauts

The first NASA astronauts were selected for training in 1959.[52] Early in the space program, military jet test piloting and engineering training were often cited as prerequisites for selection as an astronaut at NASA, although neither John Glenn nor Scott Carpenter (of the Mercury Seven) had any university degree, in engineering or any other discipline at the time of their selection. Selection was initially limited to military pilots.[53][54] The earliest astronauts for both America and the USSR tended to be jet fighter pilots, and were often test pilots.
Once selected, NASA astronauts go through twenty months of training in a variety of areas, including training for extra-vehicular activity in a facility such as NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory.[1][53] Astronauts-in-training may also experience short periods of weightlessness in aircraft called the "vomit comet", the nickname given to a pair of modified KC-135s (retired in 2000 and 2004 respectively, and replaced in 2005 with a C-9) which perform parabolic flights.[52] Astronauts are also required to accumulate a number of flight hours in high-performance jet aircraft. This is mostly done in T-38 jet aircraft out of Ellington Field, due to its proximity to the Johnson Space Center. Ellington Field is also where the Shuttle Training Aircraft is maintained and developed, although most flights of the aircraft are done out of Edwards Air Force Base.

Rocket Aerodynamics

The forces that affects a rocket flight are drag and lift. Drag negatively affects a rocket acceleration, velocity, and ultimate altitude. It must be minimized, lift causes directional changes in a rockets flight. Drag is a component of aerodynamic force acting directly against a rocket's velocity. Drag acts as a brake on the rocket.

Lift is a component of aerodynamic force acting perpendicular to a rockets velocity. The lift causes a rocket to pitch around its center of gravity. AOA stands for standard of attack. The angle of attack is the angle between a rockets velocity vector and its centerline. Stability is given to how a rocket behaves when flying.

Basic Rocketry

I learned that making a paperclip/match rocket is very complicated. You have to get the position right, so it will fly to your target. Also you must put on the match with a certain amount of tinfoil, if not the rocket will not fly. Also you have to light the match under the rocket so it will fly, but it may fly towards you. Doing this project could be dangerous.

When you do this project you must take safety to the matter. Also you must consider all the possible effects on the rocket. For example gravity may make the rocket not fly that far. Too much tin foil may cause it to not fly at all. Finally you have to be prepared for failures that may come.

summary of four buildings

The Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building:
Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building is one of seven stalinist skyscrapers laid down in September, 1947 and completed in 1952, designed by Dmitry Chechylin (then Chief Architect of Moscow) and Andrei Rostkovsky. Main tower has 32 levels (including mechanical floors) and is 176 meters tall.

The Small Hermitage:
To the order of Empress Catherine II, the Southern Pavilion of the SmallHermitage was erected in 1765-66 according to a design by the architect Yury Velten. The appearance of this building organically combined the features of the Late Baroque style with Early Classicism. Later, in 1767-69, the architect Jean Baptist Vallin de la Mothe constructed the Northern Pavilion on the bankof the Neva using the Early Classicism style. The two structures are joined at the level of the first floor by the Hanging Garden, which has galleries on both sides.

Saint Isaac's Cathedral:
Saint Isaac's Cathedral or Isaakievskiy Sobor (RussianИсаа́киевский Собо́р) inSaint PetersburgRussia is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral (sobor) in the city. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint

Saint Vasily's Cathedral:
The Cathedral of the Protection of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat(RussianСобор Покрова пресвятой Богородицы, что на Рву) or Pokrovsky Cathedral (RussianПокровский собор) - both are official names used by the Russian Orthodox Church[4] - also known as the Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed but popularly as Saint Basil's Cathedral (RussianСобор Василия Блаженного), is a Russian Orthodox church erected on Red Square in Moscow in 1555–61 on orders from Ivan the Terrible. It commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan.
